Never underestimate the power of good sports bras. They support the breasts, prevent them from sagging uncomfortably and turn a workout into a great workout.

Without perfect support, the average A-cup slips 4 cm and a D-cup bounces approx. 5-6 cm in all directions - breasts move up and down from side to side when moving briskly, creating an unpleasant feeling.

Breasts are, in contrast to tough muscles, a soft tissue. The surrounding skin and Cooper bands support most of the breast structure and, due to age, gravity, genetic requirements and bouncing movement (without an optimal sports bra), it is precisely these bands that cause the chest to sag.

How do I best support my benefits now? Do some research and buy yourself a sports bra that fits well. Here are 5 thingsThings to keep in mind so that your chest doesn't sag and you can improve your workout:

  1. Adjust straps. The bra straps should fit snugly against the skin but not be too tight. Reach under the straps with two fingers — if they fit comfortably in between, then the strap width is ideal. You can also choose bras with racerback straps that you can cross over. These provide a better grip as you can bring your chest closer to your body. Wider straps are also an option. The latter are better for larger cup sizes as they can effectively distribute weight and be adjusted.
  1. Find the right grip. When trying on, you may discover a compression bra or an encapsulated sports bra. Compression bras lift the chest, are typically worn by women with smaller breasts, and are ideal for low-impact workouts such as yoga. Sports bras with encapsulation are specifically designed for larger breasts — with individual cups for every breast size. Nonetheless, both types are suitable for all cup sizes — you might even find a sports bra that combines both styles.
  1. Find the right size. It's such a thing with cup sizes — either your breasts swell out on the sides or you discover wrinkles on the cups yourself. If your chest looks twice as big in a bra, then you should try the bra one size bigger. If the bra is too loose and irritates the skin for this reason, choose a smaller cup size.
  1. Well-fitting waistband. Make sure you can run your finger slightly below the waistband without the waistband chafing or sitting uncomfortable. In contrast, it should not be pulled further away than 3 cm from the chest. If you feel that you need a slightly wider waistband, use a hook further out to close. However, if the waistband is too loose and you are already on the tightest hook, then you should buy a bra with a tighter waistband.
  1. Test the bra. You'll be moving around a lot in this bra, so you should try out a range of movements before you buy - even if you have to do it in the changing room. Stretch your arms over your head. Does the waistband slide up? If yes, then it is too far. Then jog on the spot and make sure everything feels good, the straps aren't too tight and that the chest has a good grip.
