What is your favorite winter sport? The best courses to get fit for the Olympics
Sports fans from all over the world are watching Pyeongchang, where this year's Winter Olympics are taking place. Known for its cold winters and blue skies, the South Korean city offers optimal weather conditions for all winter sports.
We are of course excited and want to know from you whether you have what it takes to take part in the Winter Olympics. Olympic athletes train daily to the point of exhaustion in order to perfect their skills and stand out in their discipline.
On the occasion of this sports highlight of the season, we'll tell you which courses you shouldn't miss in order to master your favorite winter sport perfectly.
biathlon
Biathlon is a combination sport that consists of cross-country skiing and shooting. Races vary between 10 and 20 kilometers, interrupted by several precision shooting stations. We can help you improve your fitness, but you'll have to take care of the shooting yourself.
Biathletes have an extremely good cardiovascular condition. You should also focus on this if you want to improve in this sport. Unlike other sports, you don't have to be exceptionally strong or have great jumping power. So if you're emulating biathletes, try our functional training, which focuses on just that.
Bobsleigh
For this winter sport, you not only have to be very fast, but also really strong. Strong to push the heavy bob up to 50 meters. Quick, because the faster you sled off at the top, the sooner you get to the bottom. The decision on the placement is often made during the start-up phase in the first 50 meters. Every millisecond counts.
This requires a power combination: We recommend our body pump course for muscle building and the running course to work on your fitness.
cross-country skiing
Just like biathletes, cross-country skiers are in optimal physical condition. Women's racetracks are up to 30 km long, men's even up to 50 km. In order to last such a long distance, athletes must have maximum aerobic capacity.
Are you ready to become an aerobic god too? Try our BodyAttack course.
figure skating
This sport has a lot to offer. Figure skaters must have everything: strength to master the jumps. Perseverance to get through the whole program and flexibility for all the amazing steps and turns. The most important thing here: speed and jumping power.
If that is your destination, you can't miss our Air Fit or Jumping Fitness course. In this high-intensity workout, you jump into cardiovascular fitness on a mini trampoline.
speed skating
Olympic speed skating includes both long-distance and sprint competitions. That may sound like a detail, but it depends on whether athletes need to focus more on speed or fitness. Whether it's short or cross-country skiing, all speed skaters need flexibility to get into the starting position and muscular strength for the right kick-off.
Focus on your lower body, preferably by combining aerobics with cardio, for example with BodyStep.
skiing and snowboarding
Le pièce de resistance of the Winter Olympics. Skiing and snowboarding are the most popular and well-known disciplines. On television, it's easy to get the impression that things are just always downhill, but the whole thing is a lot more complex. Depending on the type (alpine, Nordic discipline, jumping and a few others), athletes must have a whole range of different abilities. But what they all have in common is that they need strength, coordination and a perfect sense of balance. You can improve all of this with BodyBalance.
