The benefits of Ayurveda in relation to being human have been known for a long time. This traditional Indian healing art is primarily about treating the “whole person” - inside and outside - with suggested solutions and wisdom to promote healthy sleep, well-being and balance.

Ayurvedic Teachings Focus on mind, body and mind and improve our wellbeing through a wide range of different treatments, diets, massages and health solutions.

Viewed holistically, the teaching of Ayurveda is about harmony as the key to greater satisfaction and health. This harmony can only be achieved through a balanced lifestyle in which the body is active and you still take the necessary time for peaceful relaxation, healthy sleep and meditation.

When it comes to healthy sleep and relaxation, there are various Ayurvedic guidelines to help you incorporate this teaching into your daily routine.

The benefits of healthy sleep With Ayurveda, you become visible in relaxation, in peace, in more energy and in a well-functioning metabolism that prevents weight gain.

Nowadays, it is a bit more difficult to escape the temptations of the present, such as: television, the Internet and the pleasures of nightlife.

The benefits of “going to bed” after sunset seem to be of very little importance to today's generation. However, falling asleep too late sometimes results in oversleeping.

Since almost no one wakes up at sunrise anymore, our rhythm is no longer in harmony with that of nature.

To regain the benefits of this lost habit, you simply have to follow nature's schedule. Try it out because it'll be easier to see when our energy is peaking and when it's falling naturally.

Combating natural states of wakefulness and rest results in imbalance and can also lead to illness and dissatisfaction.

In Ayurvedic teaching, there is a schedule that defines the rest and wake phases as follows:

  • From 2 in the morning to 6 in the morning: Vata Dosha dominance
  • From 6 in the morning to 10 in the morning: Kapha Dosha dominance
  • From 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon: Pitta Dosha dominance
  • From 2 in the afternoon to 6 in the evening: Vata Dosha dominance
  • From 6 in the evening to 10 at night: Kapha Dosha dominance
  • From 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.: Pitta Dosha dominance

Vata Dosha (air and ether) is a state that consists of qualities such as lightness, dryness, and the properties cold and subtle.

Kapha Dosha (water and earth) is defined by gravity, inertia and the attributes stable and static.

Pitta Dosha (fire and water) stands for intensity and has the characteristics hot and sharp.

To promote healthy sleep, it is therefore most effective to go to bed during the Kapha phase, as the body can rest more quickly during this time. However, if you stay awake until the Pitta phase, you may not be able to fall asleep due to the intense and strong Pitta characteristics.

If you go to bed early, you'll wake up earlier and enjoy the benefits and energy of the Vata phase (the best time to meditate is at sunrise).

Some people need more sleep, others need less. Whether we feel happy and healthy often depends on how rested we are. The most ideal would be a sleep duration of between 6 to 8 hours per night.

However, be careful: Sleeping too long can also have negative effects, just like sleep deprivation: Lethargy and sluggishness are then often the result.

So just try to follow nature's schedule and be amazed at the benefits of healthy Ayurvedic sleep and the positive effects it has on your waking state.
