What to do to minimize wrinkles?

Posted in Wellness

Daily causes of wrinkles

  • Smoking
  • Prolonged exposure to the sun/sun beds
  • Excessive alcohol intake
  • A poor diet
  • Lack of sleep
  • Stress

Nutrition Tips

1.Specific nutrients for your skin

  • Vitamin C: this is what we call an antioxidant. Although some creams contain vitamin C it has far more benefit for wrinkle reduction when consumed in fruits and vegetables.
  • Vitamin A: vital for skin and eye health and are found in citrus fruits, carrots, tomatoes, yellow squash, and pumpkin (women who are trying to get pregnant/are pregnant must not take vitamin A supplements).
  • Zinc: an important antioxidant supporting skin health. It can also help reduce inflammation that causes acne. Found in: Milk, cheese, meat, eggs and fish, wholegrain cereals and pulses.
  • Selenium: also a very potent antioxidant that helps to protect skin cells from damage. Found in cereals, meat, fish, offal, cheese and eggs.
  • B Vitamins: these have been shown to improve the skin's ability to retain moisture. Acne can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin B6 (in meats, whole grains, vegetables, nuts).

2.Moisturising

Daily skincare products are formulated to achieve optimum skin health. Maximum results can be gained through effective cleansing, toning, exfoliation, treatment masks and moisturising. Ask your therapist for suitable products for your skin type.

3.Fluid intake
It is vital in helping to clear the body of toxins but if we can aim for 35ml/kg body weight/day then this will give your skin a nice dewy look. Of course you need more water when you exercise or during the summer.

4.Chocolate
It doesn’t directly cause spots; however sugary foods raise insulin levels, which in turn leads to androgen production, which is associated with acne. A low GI diet may be beneficial.

Taking care of your skin does not have to be time consuming and expensive. It is all about the right choices and attention to detail in everyday life. Contact our nutritionist for more information by booking a complimentary consultation.
