If you're already going to the gym, then it should be worth it. From the right music to intelligent stretching, our 8 tips make every workout even more effective.

In addition to career, friends, relationships, hobbies and duties, finding time for the gym is anything but easy. We can't extend the day, but we can make our workout more effective. We'll explain to you how to do it and how to use your time in the gym — as effectively as possible.

1. Stretch more effectively

According to some scientists, in order to make the workout more effective, the stretching exercises should be dynamic and reflect the subsequent movements. A study revealed, for example, that people who did a few light squats and leg stretches before performing squats were able to squat 8.36% more than if they did more general and less targeted stretching exercises.

2. Listen to your favorite music while working out

Everyone likes to listen to music. But did you know that listening to music can improve the quality of your workout? studies have shown that listening to music can improve performance (especially during repetitive movements, such as running) and from effort distractsso you can train longer and harder.

3. Relax between sets

Your workout is more effective when your body is fit and refreshed — meaning you need to give your body enough time to relax between training sessions. But why is that so? Each workout creates microscopic cracks in your muscles, which heal again through sleep and recovery. If you want to train effectively and see results, don't overdo it.

4. Work out together with a friend or girlfriend

It has been proven that two people who live in a relationship have a significant impact on each other's health and on their efforts to get fit. Working out with a friend or partner will boost your concentration and motivation — and it's simply more fun too.

5. Incorporate HIIT workouts into your workout routine

Give “high intensity interval training” (better known as HIIT) a chance. These are workouts in which short, high-intensity activity intervals alternate with short recovery intervals. Because of their intensity, HIIT workouts are shorter overall than normal workouts. However, they are not only more intensive, but also more exhausting — and above all more effective. Incorporate a HIIT workout into your routine once a week to burn more calories and steel your muscles in an astonishingly short amount of time.

6. Diversify your routine

Get closer to your goals by making regular changes to your exercise routine. As a result, you challenge both body and mind again and again. When you do the same exercises over and over again, your body gets used to them and uses less energy to do them, slowing down your training progress.

7. Don't exercise on an empty stomach

Exercising on an empty stomach is never a good idea. You risk exhaustion, dizziness and nausea — and also increase the risk of injury. To optimally prepare the body for the upcoming effort, a small, carbohydrate-rich meal before you head to the gym, such as a granola bar or a small portion of oatmeal, is ideal.

8. Use a personal trainer

Our personal trainers get the most out of your training. They help you create a workout plan tailored to your wants and needs, give you tips and advice on how to lead a healthier lifestyle and make use of your time at the gym, and are available 24/7. Find out here more about our personal training
