A happy vegan Christmas — for you and everyone you love

From nutrition to gifts, a vegan Christmas is easy to implement with a little preparation and a little imagination. Here are five easy ways to celebrate a happy vegan Christmas this year.

Even for seasoned vegans, a completely vegan Christmas is sometimes a challenge.
But with a bit of research and creativity, you can enjoy the holidays — in a way that pleases both your body and your heart.

Easy tips for a vegan Christmas

2 — Watch out for vegan clothes
Clothing is one of the most popular Christmas gifts — but not everything is automatically vegan.
Avoid real fur and leather and check carefully whether they are really artificial products.
There are beautiful faux fur scarves, high-quality bags, belts and shoes that do not involve any animal suffering.
When giving away knitwear, be careful with Angora wool — PETA has revealed that rabbits get plucked painfully for it.
Fashion brands such as Calvin Klein, H&M and SOS have therefore committed themselves to refrain from using Angora in the future.

3 — Avoid cosmetics that have been tested on animals
There are now many ethically produced cosmetic products — it is therefore easy to refrain from animal testing.
However, this area is confusing for many:
Despite a ban on animal testing in Europe, animal testing for imported cosmetics is required by law in China.
This means that many brands that appear “safe” in Europe belong to corporations that nevertheless carry out animal testing abroad.
PETA has a helpful list of vegan brands for body care and cosmetics put together — this saves you time and saves animal lives at the same time.

4 — Don't forget the true spirit of giving
At Christmas time, we like to remember the values of Kindness, generosity and mindfulness — but do we also live them?
Use the holidays to show what's really important to you.
Change the meaning of gifts in your environment by consciously communicating that shared experiences mean more to you than material gifts.

Maybe you and your partner would rather use the money for gifts for a wellness weekend, a romantic dinner or a fitness club membership for the new year.
If you still want to give physical gifts, choose conscious and sustainable alternatives — as described above.
And pack them in old newspapers, magazines or scraps of fabric, for example, to avoid waste.

5 — Don't teach anyone — set a good example
Not everyone is going to be open to a completely vegan Christmas.
Don't take this personally — and don't impose your convictions on anyone.
Especially during the stressful Christmas season, it is difficult for many to implement new habits or sustainable changes.
But Count small steps — and your attitude, actions, and positive energy can inspire even skeptical family members to think more sustainably.

A happy vegan Christmas to you—and everyone you care about!
