These are the benefits and harms of Detox for your health.

Detox or detoxification of the body has become popular. It is said that this makes it easier to get rid of toxins and excess weight while promoting health and wellbeing. Nevertheless, we don't know exactly how it works, what exactly is being dismantled and whether it actually works. For this reason, this article provides an overview of various detox cures and their effects on health and nutrition.

What is detox or detox?

First of all, the English term for detox, “detox”, comes from the English word “detoxification “(meaning detoxification) and is originally a medical term. As such, it is not synonymous with the popular therapeutic, juice or water fasting. In the medical sector, the term refers to treatment for severe drug or alcohol addiction, as well as poisoning (e.g. due to heavy metals) and is used in hospitals.

In general, detoxification stands for a natural process in the human bodyto break down xenobiotics and endotoxins. It is a biochemical process in which non-water-soluble substances are converted into water-soluble substances so that they can be excreted through urine, sweat, bile or stool.

Some systems are involved in the body's own detoxification process, for example: The digestive system plays an important role not only in digesting food. It is also important for our immune system and ensures that nutrients reach the bloodstream. The liver helps the body utilize nutrients and eliminate harmful chemicals such as heavy metals, alcohol, and drugs. It converts metabolites into “safe” by-products, which can then be filtered by the kidneys. The liver also helps the body to break down fats into their constituents, filter blood and plays an essential role in carbohydrate metabolism (i.e. keeping blood sugar stable) and fat metabolism.

The kidneys are incredibly important and efficient filters that eliminate toxins.

Which toxins are eliminated?

Detox treatments rarely describe exactly which toxins should be removed from the body. In fact, there is little evidence that fasting actually removes “toxins” from the body, and the few studies that have been published all have significant limitations.

Do detox cures work?

Experience reports report improved concentration and increased energy after a detox cure. This may be due to the fact that you don't eat processed foods that contain solid fats and added sugar. Just avoiding these high-calorie and nutrient-poor foods for a few days can help you feel better about yourself and your diet.

On the other hand, many people also report feeling unwell during the detox treatment. The biggest health risk associated with detox treatments is associated with insufficient energy and nutrient intake.

Conclusion:

If you're considering a detox, you should get your doctor's OK. Possible side effects should also be considered. Detox treatments that restrict the protein supply too much or require strict fasting, for example, can cause tiredness and listlessness. Long-term fasting can cause serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

There are some aspects of detoxification that are generally associated with improved health. This includes avoiding environmental toxins, exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet with nutrient-rich foods, drinking water, reducing stress, and relaxing. These tips may or may not be part of a detox, but they will definitely lead to a healthier lifestyle.

The ultimate 'detox lifestyle 'consists of non-smoking, training and a healthy, balanced diet.
