As a small foretaste and for inspiration, here are a few extra tips for a good night's sleep. Ready, set, sleep!
10 simple rules to help you sleep better naturally:
- Consume little alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and other chemicals that affect sleep and avoid them completely in the evening.
- Create a sleep-promoting atmosphere in your bedroom: dark, quiet and cozy. That will help you fall asleep better.
- Stick to a relaxing and quiet routine the hour before you go to sleep.
- Don't go to bed until you're tired.
- Don't keep looking at your clock when you're lying in bed, it only increases stress.
- Use daylight to regulate your internal clock. Let it shine into the bedroom in the morning and go for a walk outdoors at noon. Light helps the body to follow a natural rhythm.
- Lying down and getting up at the same time every day makes you sleep better. Create a routine that allows you to do that.
- Avoid heavy food in the evening and don't eat too late to avoid slow digestion.
- Drink in the evening so that you don't wake up thirsty at night, but also not so much that you constantly have to go to the toilet.
- Don't exercise just before you go to sleep. The best time for a workout is in the morning, but no later than three hours before you go to sleep. Exercise exhausts the body, but immediately afterwards, all of its structures are highly active and prevent falling asleep.
