Feet ache? Menstrual cramps? Migraines? With our self-massage tips, your problems can be solved immediately.

When everything hurts, a massage can often do wonders. But sometimes we don't have enough time to book a massage appointment - that's why here are a few useful tips on how to treat yourself and reduce pain in such cases. Nerve relief, increased blood circulation and lymphatic circulation — with these simple self-massage techniques, you will feel much more comfortable.

Self-massage for migraine

If you often suffer from migraines, then you know how much these symptoms can affect your life. While tablets and other medications are only a quick solution, massages can alleviate throbbing or pressure in the head and nausea. You can alleviate these symptoms with acupressure on different areas of the head. By pressing on certain points, you can heal the pulling in your head and thus “keep a clear head” in the truest sense of the word. Here are four acupressure points you should press when you have a migraine:

  • The third eye It is located exactly where the nose merges with the forehead. Press this point for one minute.
  • Beauty point. Press this point with your index finger on both sides of the face. You'll find it between the cheekbones and nose.
  • Light point. It is located behind the jaw. When you press these points, you can relax your head and neck.
  • Heavenly pillar. Press these points on the back of your head where the neck starts. This relieves your spine.

Self-massage for back pain

Working in the office can be the cause of back pain - but there are ways and means to alleviate this pain. Get yourself a hard foam roller and relax your back muscles with the following self-massage tips:

  • Lie flat on the floor in a supine position with feet hip-width apart.
  • Place the foam roller on the middle area of your back, just below your shoulder blades.
  • Roll your back up and down, away from your feet and toward your feet, and massage your back to relieve pressure points.

Self-massage for neck and shoulders

The muscles at the back of your skull work hard to be able to balance your head on the spine. It is time to reward them and pamper them a bit with your hands. However, there are other ways to give them the rewards they've earned. Grab a tennis ball and try the following:

  • Place the tennis ball between your shoulders and the wall.
  • Raise your arms above your head and roll your head from side to side.
  • Use the ball to also work on other areas of your upper body to eliminate problems.

Self-massage for menstrual pain

An inflamed lower back during menstruation can trigger cramps and pain in many women. To make that pain go away, try these simple yet helpful tips:

  • Lie flat on your back with your legs bent and the soles of your feet flat on the floor.
  • Lie on two tennis balls with your lower back at the same distance, right where your sacrum meets your hip bones.
  • Raise and lower your buttocks to massage this area.

Self-massage for painful feet

You can safely perform this self-massage under your desk without having to interrupt your work. All you need is a tennis ball. Take off shoes (and socks too if you want), get on the ball with the sole of your foot and massage with strong pressure from toe to heel. If you are a runner and currently have some problem areas on your feet, roll the ball in small circular motions to loosen up the corresponding areas.
