A new strong: Why there's more to lifting weights than lifting weights
Strength improves your quality of life more than any other form of exercise. That's why lifting weights isn't the only form of strength training.

When we think of strength, we often think of muscles like Schwarzenegger's and lifting ten times his body weight.
But that is not how we understand strength.
For us, the “new strength” is something that should come naturally. The new strength is our ability to run, jump, jump, squat, and do handstands in the garden with ease (if you wish). It conditions our bodies — thoughtfully, strategically, and gradually — to imitate everyday activities and to be able to move more freely.
But strength is often neglected in everyday life. Working in the office. An unexpected injury. lack of energy. It's a hectic schedule.
There are a handful of elements that make up the new strength. At Holmes Place, our services, equipment, courses, and personal training programs are designed to include all of these elements. Here are the facts:
When was the last time only one joint in your body moved at once? If you're particularly tense and stiff, that may be possible. But your workout should be as flexible as the movements you make with multiple joints. Weights play an enormous role in functional training, but strength requires more than that. Being strong in everyday life requires continuous practical and useful activities. That's why we mix natural movements into specific exercises — everything from a 15-minute sandbell class to fun Trampoline jumping at Air Fit.
For most people, that's exactly a reason not to start weight training: the myth that you have to train every day to see results. However, that is not true. In functional training, strength is built up in high-intensity training sessions, such as in our short Xpress courses. These classes are designed to focus on more than one muscle. So instead of training the same muscle groups on the elliptical trainer, you can strengthen a wider range in half the time.
Everywhere workouts are perfect for days when you can't go to the gym. This style of weight training is based on the principles of natural human movement. You only use your body weight against resistance, which means you can use this workout anywhere. Instead of relying on weight equipment, the new weight training is primarily about how you interact with the environment, whether you're climbing mountains or crawling under tree branches.
The new strength trains your muscles in every way and helps your body flow smoothly and avoid injury-causing imbalance. By expanding your range of motion without repetitive exertion, the new strength wards off possible injuries and pain that can result from a sedentary lifestyle. This is particularly important later in life.
Express your prejudices about weight training at the entrance and enjoy the new strength - and with it the new journey - as your body becomes more resilient and compensates for any imbalance. Find out more about our philosophy.
