How to avoid the mistakes of last year's resolutions

Make 2019 the year you truly achieve your goals — yes, even the most ambitious ones.

Here's how to establish healthy habits — for a happier, healthier you.

We all know the feeling: We make New Year's resolutions — and then we don't keep them.
January often starts with a motivation boost. Supermarkets are full of smoothie ingredients and low-carb dishes, and many friends sign up for the gym. No wonder: The two most common resolutions are eat healthier and detaching.

But why fail then 8 out of 10 resolutions by February — even though there is the will to get fitter, healthier and happier?

Whether you want to take your fitness to the next level or simply lose a few inches, these principles will help you 2019 the year of your success to make.

‍

Here are a few simple changes for a healthier, happier year:

‍

Think yourself moving

Health and exercise should become an integral part of your everyday life.
For that, you have to have your Mindset change — your head is more important than your body when it comes to staying on track permanently.
Start every day with the conscious Intent to move more — and remember it regularly.

Get off one stop early and walk. Instead of writing emails, go straight to your colleague.
Make a visit to the gym after work a fixed appointment — it will soon become routine, with no excuses.

Celebrate small successes

Don't expect to achieve big fitness goals overnight.
The journey there starts with small milestones.
This could mean taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or increasing your weekly run from one to two kilometers.

In times of social media, which often show unrealistic “immediate successes,” it is important to remain realistic:
Even a few hours of training per week can change your body — all you need is a little patience.

Say less “I should” — and more “I will”

The way you formulate your resolutions has a big impact on their implementation.
The word “should” creates feelings of guilt and doubt:
“I should eat salad,” “I shouldn't drink wine today,” “I should go to the gym. ”
Such statements often remain indecisive — and generate negative emotions.

Instead, say:
“I'm going to go swimming. ”
“I'm going to give up the wine. ”
“I'm going to eat healthier. ”
This will keep you motivated, clear and determined.

Don't forget to sleep

An often overlooked but decisive factor for your fitness: enough sleep.
It prepares you for an active, productive day, balances your biorhythms — and reduces cravings for sugary snacks or caffeine-rich drinks in the morning.

Eat well. Feel good Move more.
